Summer Newsletter 2010

Welcome to our Summer newsletter…..the purpose of which is to inform the people involved with our club what is going on now, and what is planned for the future. There are also a few points of club rule that have to be re-enforced to ensure the club functions efficiently and within standard guidelines.

The first thing to note is our summer closing date. Our last session will be on the 18th July. Check the notice board for details. We will come back on the 27th August in readiness for the Tadpole Galas and the Echo Cup Galas the following week (a bit more about these below).

Other items worth mentioning is the new kit ordering system. If you wish to order any of our club costumes / bags etc this is now done through the website. You can order the kit online and we will purchase it and then bring it along to club for you to pay and collect. It is a nice easy system and you only pay when you collect.

Our Saturday morning training sessions at Picton 50m pool have unfortunately not had the take up we where hoping for and if the numbers stay as they are, we unfortunately may have to review the practicality of running these sessions with the current take up; all children in the Advanced session should be aiming to attend these sessions as the extra 2 hours will develop the swimmer both technically and endurance wise.

Tadpole Galas: What are they you ask? Below is some general info on this.

Entry into these galas is for anyone in the age category below, although you do need to be of a sufficient standard, your swimming teacher/coach can explain the requirements. You will swim as an individual entrant but will be managed on poolside by a member of our club. We actively encourage entry in these galas especially if the swimmer enjoys a competitive challenge.

GENERAL AIMS.
1. To encourage and develop a wide base of young swimmers within the Merseyside area and invited clubs.
2. To stimulate and develop an interest in competitive swimming at an early age.
3. To identify young swimmers with potential and their parents within local clubs and encourage them to participate and progress through established pathways.

GENERAL CONDITIONS.
1. Seven galas will be held at intervals during the period September to November 2010.
2. The meet will take place at Everton Park Sports Centre, short-course (25m).
3. This is a Level 4 Licensed Meet. (Open to any standard with no minimum criteria)
4. Age Groups: - 9, 10, 11, 12 years as at the 19th November 2010.

How to enter – Discuss your entry with any of our teachers/coaches who will pass on an entry form and tell you what to do next.

Echo Cup Galas What are they you ask? Below is some general info on this.

The Echo Cup is one of the top ranking local galas in the Merseyside area. There are two qualifying rounds on the 4th and 25th of September and the finals on the 24th October. For a club of our size we aim to get into the finals, although over the last few years this has not been achieved. The teams for this year’s gala will be announced soon and we will be encouraging the swimmers to put efforts into achieving their full potential.

As we as a club will be closed over the summer holiday we actively encourage all the gala team to train over this period. To achieve this we will be working with the council run squad’s sessions on Mondays 6-7pm and Thursdays 7.30-8.30pm at the Halewood pool. Just turn up for the session and Mick who runs squads and/or one of the club coaches will explain the minimal payments and sort out the training in line with the events you will be swimming in. Even if you are not in the gala team squads is an ideal way to maintain your training over the summer months, so why not give it a go.

Text Box: General Club Information

1. Swim 21 (Club Development)
Swim 21 is the swimming club standard quality assurance level which we must achieve and operate at. We are half way through the process of achieving this accreditation and will hopefully complete the process in 2010.

2. Clothing left in Changing cubicles
Can parents/guardians please ensure clothing of swimmers is not left in the changing cubicles during the swimming sessions as this causes problems for incoming pupils, as changing facilities are then not available. Please either use the lockers or put your clothing on the poolside where it will be safe.

3. New Membership & renewal
Anyone wishing to join the club in ANY session needs to put their name down on our waiting list at the payment desk. A test can then be arranged for the pupil at a mutually convenient time and day. If the swimmer is of a more advanced level you will probably not be on the list too long hopefully. Renewal of membership will be at the end of September for all club members, anyone who has joined in the last month will not be asked for payment but will still have to complete a new form.

4. Club Website
All information for galas, results, sprint night times and P.B times as well as being on the notice board will be published on our club website where possible.

5. Water Polo Club
Bridgefield also has a highly successful water polo team which trains separately to our swimming club, but teaches polo on a semi-regular basis at Halewood. If you are interested in taking up water polo please talk to our Workforce Development officer Paula Need, or one of our teachers for further info. Also check out the website for water polo information.
